10 Jun 2024

Operational Development of the Digit_Crops Platform

During the third quarter of the Digit_Crops project implementation, significant progress was achieved in the development of digital applications. Particular attention was given to integrating feedback from the field in order to ensure a better alignment between the proposed tools and real-world agricultural needs.

Web Version Enhancements

The web version of the platform underwent several important improvements focused on:

  • strengthening application security,

  • reorganizing content for better readability,

  • optimizing the user interface to better reflect the project’s goals and provide a smoother user experience.

Built on a modular architecture, the platform integrates Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) that ensure:

  1. seamless connection to services and data,

  2. technical readiness for future mobile app integration,

  3. functional consistency across devices,

  4. smooth platform interoperability,

  5. and reinforced security for data exchanges.

Components of the Web Platform

The current web platform is structured around two main components:

  1. Public Interface
Accessible at: https://wascal-ci.org/digit_crops, it allows users to explore:

    • the project's objectives,

    • ongoing activities,

    • and latest news.

  2. Secure Administration Dashboard
Dedicated to content management, database administration, and integrated services.

📱 Toward a Mobile Version

In parallel, the development of the mobile version has been launched. It is based on the same API architecture as the web platform, ensuring a consistent and unified user experience across Android and iOS devices.

✅ Key Achievements This Quarter

  1. Finalization and enrichment of the project database with field-collected data, including:

    • a module dedicated to pest management,

    • a module for local agricultural practices,

    • and an agro-climatic alert system.

  2. Development of a functional prototype of the mobile application, incorporating core features connected to the project database.

📅 The full version of the mobile application is scheduled for release by the end of July 2025.
